Next trail ride is September 5th. See you there.
Trail rides form the heart and soul of the club. In this section we have everything you need to know about getting yourself ready for the trail ride season.
If you're wondering what our trails are like, check out some videos here: TTBRC ride vids
If you have any great stories about your trail ride day, let us know at website@ttbrc.co.nz and we'll let everyone hear about it. Also if you took any neat pictures as well, we'd love to add them to our trail ride gallery.
August 2010 Ride Summary
Despite the doom and gloom weather predictions, just on three hundred riders turned out for over 70km’s of pure dirt bike riding indulgence. The August trail ride arguably saw some of the best tracks the club has prepared to date. I know we keep saying something similar each ride, but this time you had to be there to truly appreciate both the morning and afternoon loops in all their glory. Much credit must go out to all our dedicated volunteers who prepare the tracks for each ride.
Once again, the bad weather forecast did not dampen the family attendance, with over 30 families attending and with the only gripe being some missed out on the family ride in the morning all left with huge smiles. The family ride leaves at 10.30 on the morning of the ride, so our apologies for this ride leaving a few minutes early.
The morning loop benefited from the rain during the week and turned out to be an absolute blast. Although having to be cut back to just over 30km’s due to forestry activities, the loop quality certainly did not suffer. Having a 6km and 10km short cut home, there was something for riders of all abilities. Just after 11.30, the afternoon loop opened and the track crew had prepared another 20km’s of riding bliss. Green arrow options, white arrow extreme sections and after a touch of rain some slippery hill climbs rounded out the day by giving something for all riders, be they novice or expert alike.
Unfortunately there is a minority whom don’t exercise common sense. Number one is speeding in the pits. Dangerous and just plain dumb. Parents, you need to educate your children on this as well. Secondly, riding through bunting on the trail. We put it there for a reason, mostly so you don’t ride headlong into someone else or get lost. We try to make the best tracks we can with the space available, so if you accidentally go through these bunted off areas put the bunting back up. Would your mates rather wait a minute for this or an hour for an ambulance???
Seems like we are not the only ride organisers having the same issue. Think about it, is it going to take someone getting hurt before we see commonsense prevail????
Enough grumblings. The next ride is on September 5th and don’t forget the last ride of the year has just been confirmed for the 26th September. Be there or I’ll send my gran around to roost you!!!!
May 2010 Ride Summary
What a great start to the year. We had over 380 riders turn up for
what can only be described as a near perfect start to the trail riding season. Even the committee members managed to get out and throw some dirt over their bikes (Nick's one on the right).

It was great to see that plenty of families and novices took up the offer of a guided ride around the 20km loop, and judging by the smiles, I'd say they all enjoyed themselves. If you missed out this time, just look for Steve Mc and co immediately after the ride briefing in June and tag along.
We try to provide plenty of variety out there for all skill levels. There were heaps of options on the afternoon lap, with easy (green) sections, the red main trail and even some optional white arrows that marked a couple of expert sections. Don't worry if you weren't up to riding the expert sections this time, there'll be plenty more through the year, and it's great for you if you want to hone your skills for the Tarawera 100 (which is only 8 weeks away!)
We're gearing up for the Tarawera 100 in the coming weeks, but that doesn't mean that we'll be neglecting our trail ride trails. Check our our working bee pages for details on when we'll be up working in the bush. It'd be great to see you up there helping out, and plus you get a free ride for chipping in!
TTBRC Ride Fees
This year we've scrapped the club membership fee, its now absorbed by the ride fee, so now you will automatically become a member when you attend one of our rides. We want to make things easy...
Family (Member) $50
Adult (Member) $30
Student (Member) $20
child 14yrs and under (Member) $10
Fire Extinguishers will be sold at each event and will be $25 - $35 depending on availability.
It's a team effort!
If everyone chips in, the whole day runs smoothly.
We often have members help out during the day which is great to see, and if you'd like to come up on a working bee between now and our next ride, or provide some assistance on trail ride days, just give us an email, we'd love to hear from you.
There are a few special people that have helped the club so much over the years, that we've given them life member status. Check them out here
We are having some trouble getting the bulk of our riders to the riders briefings, so we devised a plan to see if we can get more there. What we intend to do is to have a cut off time to be able to get the same priced ride for the riders that make the effort to turn up at a decent time for sign on. We seem to have some of the riders still signing on at 1:00pm and this isn't fair on our team that volunteer for sign on.
What have we come up with is that we will shut sign on at 12:00 midday, this will be enforced on all 2010 rides. Anyone arriving after this will have to pay a $10 late fee. The other reason is we need more people at the briefing & this isn't happening.
It's your safety that we're concerned about, and for those of you that miss the briefing, you are endangering yourselves by riding in ignorance. If you want more info contact us via email.
